Reference checking is not working?


We noticed that some clients did not verify references from former employers of their. They feel like they are bothering them, that they just not tell the truth about the candidate or that those references can be misleading or unfair. Eventually, happened to them in the past, that they got a positive reference but the new employee failed in their company.


Reference checking is a very valuable thing, if you know how to do it correctly. There are simple tips on how and what exactly ask to former direct superiors, to make sure that reference checking goes smoothly without discomfort and specially to find out the real truth.


One of the functional questions we recommend to our clients is:

· If you were thinking about filling the position, would you accept this person into your company again?


...and another one that is very useful is:

None of us is perfect and we all have something that could be improved. What do you think this person can improve?


On this questions, you usually get straight answers or responses that will reveal the truth about a particular candidate.
